2009 Was something of a quite year for Thai Airbrush, we did a few nice helmets for some great customers, but generally  had to concentrate on our tattoo business, yes we customize people as well! That has all changed for 2010, with the tattoo studio running like a well oiled machine we are now able to concentrate on airbrush and helmets for 2010!!!

John Hurren has recently moved to Thailand, an avid Moto X rider he bought a trusted, if not a little worse for ware Arai helmet with him. The brief was quite simple, rescue it and add a simple Suzuki color scheme with a name and Union Jack incorporated.

We kept it simple as instructed with plenty of Suzuki Yellow and some black stars, the name down the sides of the chin bar in a Monster Energy drink style text and a blocky but wavy Union Jack design across the back, a fair few coats of lacquer should we hope prevent further stone chipping!

Cost is a factor with airbrush work such as this, the client wants to project a smart image on site but the helmets are cheap and disposable, so
for this job we would describe the finished article as “race paint” rather than “show paint”, it’s still neat and clean but perhaps not as polished as a race helmet for example.

The client’s corporate colors are red and white and black. So a simple design was decided on with the client’s corporate logo as a feature on both sides of the helmet.

We have just completed a helmet for Sandy Nicholas who now has a second race helmet to match the corporate design we did previously.

The brief for this helmet was pretty sketchy, we had psychedelic, teeth,
sponsors and a color scheme. So we came up with the idea to do a predator
design helmet, it suits Sandy’s racing style. Although we have done many
variations of predators and aliens on Simpson RX helmets we have never done
this type of design on a race helmet. It is important that a race helmet is
very visible so that when a pit crew is trying to spot their driver the
helmet stands out, detail spells loss of color and that means the helmet
will blend into the background and become less distinctive.

The color scheme is a pearl white base, straight fire red, red pearl and
blue pearl on both the Thai and Norweigan flags. A bundle of colors in the
predator and a nice section of Japanese black, a neon green with a forest
green fade tops it off and some high flek silver pinstripes finish the job.

Thai Airbrush was honored to be asked to airbrush a couple of beanies for
the Jesters MC annual charity drive auction in aid of the “care for kids”
program. The Jesters are a well known and well respected club in Thailand
and they do many things for charity here in Pattaya. The club is made up of
both ex-pat and Thai members.

There are already some great items to bid on at the “Care 4 Kids” online
auction hopefully these two beanies will make a good edition and raise some
worthwhile cash for the cause.

We decided on two designs, the first is kind of corporate and commemorative
of the event and will hopefully appeal to most tastes. Its a straight black
lacquer with a hot rod white sparkle blown over it, it features all the
relevant logo’s and has the number 11 to note that this is the 11th
anniversary of the event. With the second one we got a little bit more
carried away !

Thomas Raldorf is certainly one of “Thailands Fastest Racers” with both Thai and Danish National Kart racing Titles to his name. Thomas now races in the Thai Supercar Series in the Supercar 2000 event. We have recently finished a Painted Helmet for Thomas after some weeks working on the design. Thomas gave us a pretty good brief and a license to change the colors as we wanted. Again Thomas is sponsored to race by the Pizza Company so again the helmet had to have a Pizza Company “flava”….

We decided to go with a neon green, candy apple red and pearl white base, these were combined in good old fashioned “go faster” race graphics, his name was added and a combination of the Thai and Norweigan flags finished the design nicely. Total cost for this helmet paint including design and application 20,000 baht, please note all graphics are airbrushed the only time we use vinyl is for masking purposes.
